1.Confused over MICs Thomas Garfield, Robert Garfield COMPLETED
« on: Friday 04 April 08 01:05 BST (UK) »
  :-[  :-[  :-[ (extremely)
I got really confused, and managed to confuse everyone else at the same time, so will start again.

MIC for Thomas Garfield  (relates to attched group photo, hopefully).
Details on card (still can't figure how to attach it as it is a PDF download from Ancestry)
Garfield, Thomas H.
Corps: RAMC    Rank: T/ WO Cl I   Regt No. 26524   British Medal, Roll 101 A2, Page 158
Remarks: AS/ RAMC/1500

He survived the War

Could this be related to one of the men in the photo, which may or may not be him?
I think the Medal Card is most likely my Thomas Garfield, who I believe served in Ireland at some time.

Errrr.... :o

In a word.... :-[

No.... :'(

This medal card is for a "Tempoary Warrant Officer Class 1" ie an RSM rank...and he is RAMC...

Doubtful that a Pte soldier in the RE and DLI would spring to the dizzy heights of "Top Soldier" on one MIC when he is listed as Pte on another!!!

BTW....attached medal detail, not a piccie!
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

I presume the MIC attached is the chap you meant?

Giraffe
You mention service in Ireland
I know the 1916  Easter Rebellion was armed conflict however it wasnt recognised as "Overseas" it was a "Home" Service posting so if your soldier only served in Ireland as well as Mainland he wouldnt have Great War campaign medals so no MIC :(

Thank you mmm and Scrimnet, Well, I've done it again! - (confused everyone this time).
The photo I was referring to for Thomas Garfield was the RFA Group one in a previous thread  for Thomas Garfield, I can see that my "ID" group photo has been the source of problems. I am re-attaching the RFA group one - didn't know if I was allowed to post it twice). Can we start again please?

This is an Artillery pic, with Pte soldiers (Gunners).

No RAMC present...unless he is scrounging some scran from them!

You need an RA MIC!, not RAMC MIC!!!

RAMC is for the medics and quacks...RA for Gnrs and big bangy type things  ;D

Thanks Scrimnet,
;D As you have gathered, I'm not exactly au fait with military terminology!
So .  .  .  .  .(a) the photo doesn't have Thomas Garfield on it if the MIC is his,
and  (b) the MIC is  POSSIBLY his, but not definitely
Words of one syllable please . . .

I have now found out how to change the MIC image from PDF to Jpeg, so will post asap. I entered his details wrongly in my first post of the MIC, that's the trouble with trying to do two things at once.

If the MIC is his, he is a big shouty man, WO1 Royal Army Medical Corps, and ergo NOT on that photo...

If he is on the group photo, Royal Artillery, it's NOT his MIC...
