Do you think they all got a SWB mention!!! cos I have seen so many men injured time and again and sent back to the front line.  So ...ooo I was wondering if  would all get  a SWB mention in that case.  Or, did they only get it once they were actually pensioned off?

Good point  though... a Signaller ... or even downgraded for an interim period.  8)

Perhaps he was RE to start with, decided he wanted some action with his mates....and then because of his skills, or downgrading  was sent back to the RE, retaining his original number....

Another thought...Wasn't a miner was he?

You may have mentioned his job previously, but there are so many bits and bobs about your lot, I have lost track!

The RE pulled in any miners for tunelling work to dig the huge mines which were exploded under the German lines...And they got extra pay for it...

So you have quite a few suggestions to ponder over for this soldier, giraffe.  ::)

Hopefully you will find out more about them before long.  :)

Thanks Atom.
And many thanks to all who shared my confusion!
I'm seeing my cousin soon, he is also searching, so we can compare our findings. Bet I've got more than he has, thanks to all on Rootschat. Keep it going!
