Where is Tooren ?
« on: Friday 04 April 08 22:05 BST (UK) »
Can anyone please help me & tell me where is Tooren in Co galway & what is it listed under in Griffith's Valuation? As some of you will know I have been trying to track down Fanning family's from Annaghdown & surrounding areas.I have found a John Fanning from Tooren in Liverpool 1873.So of course I am now wondering if he could be connected to Peter Fannin from Annaghdown who may have also immigrated to England with his wife & a least one daughter.Thank you

Suspect the place you have, Tooren, is incorrect and it might be something like Tooreen. See www.thecore.com/seanruad to find parishes and townlands in Ireland. Be sure to change default setting from 'exact match' to search for part of a word.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

If it is Tooreen it is a small village in the Parish of Aghamore four miles from the Town of Ballyhaunis in Co, Mayo. The West of Ireland.
Bordering Counties of Roscommon,Galway, and Sligo.

Hi , With your help I have found Tooreen listed in Griffith's Valuation but no family with the name of Fannin/Fanning in the area, but it has not been in vain as I  was hunting for John Fannin that was in liverpool who's birth place was give as Tooren(Tooreen)Great delight I found  another one of Peter's children born in Annaghdown John Fannin 1863.
