THORNTON Family - Armagh
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 02:04 BST (UK) »
Could someone help me :

I have THOMAS THORNTON B 1833 Kilmore Armagh.
His father was Alezander B 1800.
Thomas married Mary Jane McCraken (son) in 1853 in Tartaraghan Armagh.

Their 1st child was born, Alexander 1856 in Queensland Australia.

Can someone advise HOW, WHEN WHERE AND WHY THEY MIGRATED.

tHANK YOU.
leona.

Think you might have more luck asking on Australian board about finding shipping records.
Did Thomas and Mary Jane die in Australia? If so, their death certificates might give some clues like how long they were in Australia, etc.
As to why they migrated it would be difficult to say because so many people left Ireland in 1850s- better opportunities, family already overseas, etc.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
