Hereford Militia
« on: Saturday 05 April 08 17:16 BST (UK) »
Hi

Can any one help me to find out where I might try to locate info on the Hereford Militia and where & when they were serving outside of the Country. My 2 GGF William Henry Howell was a colour sergeant with them. He had sons born in Ireland from abt 1855 - 1858 (can't find any certificates for them) & by 1861 was at Bartonsham Barracks, Hereford and died in 1865.

Thanks Gaye

Hello Gaye, welcome to RootsChat

Contact Hereford Archives http://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/leisure/archives/3584.asp they will be able to tell you the records they hold.

If you Google search for Hereford Militia, lots of sites come up.

Gaye,

Ask especially about inter-library loan if it is not  available from your local Library.  Amazing what one can get hold of that way.

Do that and save your money for certificates- unfortuantely those don't come on any loan program about which I have heard.  Pity about that.
Good luck
