Hello,
Would someone with the 1861 Glamorganshire Census Index please look up Ann Richards born about 1843 Glamorgan and Thomas Pearce born Laugharne, Carmarthenshire, 1840? A report on any Ann Richards aged about 18 years, father John would be very welcome.
They are my Great Grandparents and although I know a great deal about Thomas Pearce (except 1861) I cannot trace Ann before her marriage in Stockton, County Durham, 8 Mar 1862, father, John Richards, Furnaceman. In the 1891 census she gave her birthplace as Marsteg, which I took to be Maesteg, but in 1871, 1881 and 1901 only Wales or Glamorgan were given. Neither Ann nor her father John was in the 1861 census for Stockton.
Anns’ father is John Richards and in the 1851 Glamorgan census the only suitable Ann was born about 1844 Llangonoyd (Llangynwyd) but after investigating this family in the Parish Registers I discovered that there was a transcription error in the 1881 census. Her age was given as 26 instead of 36, unmarried and now of course still in Glamorgan so THIS IS NOT HER
The obvious possibility is a family who were in Stockton in 1871, John Richards, H M 58, labourer in Ironworks (but in 1891 Fireman Ironworks) born Llandown; Mary, wife, 57, Llantrisant; Cecelia, daug, 16, Eglwys Elan; Margaret (married but still with family) daug 19, Eglwys Elan, (in 1881 born Reddyfelen).
This looks like the family living at Glyntaff in 1851 HO107/ 2454 F 108 Schedule 052, Address Rhyyfelin
With children John 10, William 7, Evan 6 all born Llantwit Fardre. The trouble is they did not have a daughter Ann, or was this an omission?
Regards, jackh
