Wow!
I have to do some double checking and make sure that's the right person, but I think it very well could be.
Where did you get the records from?
Can I locate more records of other people? I have a great grandfather who served in the Middlesex regiment, I'd be facinated to see his records.
Thanks you again, that's made my day.

They are from the National Archives at kew, and available on line via Ancestry.com
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

Hi again,
I tried searching ancestry.co.uk for Joseph Stevens and it wasn't found!
Are there any tricks to finding the record? You seemed to find it ok, am I doing something wrong?
Cheers
Rob

Military records on Ancestry are a bit of a Black Art...

And thus could be a bit hit and miss...

Luck and a little judgement!! ;) ;)

blimey, it is too.
I can't find one that I know is definitely there, even using the regiment number.
Is there any chance you could look to see if there's a Henry/Harry Willis. Aged about 34 in 1916. Either Middlesex reg or could be West Yorkshire (his son was born in yorkshire but all the family lived in Edmonton).
I have a photo of him with a medal which looks like the indian service medal. I reckon he must've served before the war too.
I know it's a long shot as it's not an uncommon name and possibly a bit cheeky of me to ask; but I don't seem to be having much luck with ancestry.

If you have his approx year of birth, where born, and where living...I'll give it a bash...

Only 1 in 3 records have survived...Most were destroyed in an air raid in 1941.

He was born approx 1881, I know he died in Edmonton aged 48 in 1929.
However, he married in a place called Jump, Wombwell which is West Ridings Yorkshire and had his children there. So it's difficult to say if he was born there or in Edmonton. If he was still living up north it's likely to have been Ecclesfield. As I say, I know it's a long shot.
