Is anyone else researching Cline?
My Grt grt grandfather William Cline born abt 1811 married Ellen (maiden name unknown). She was born in Charlemont, Cork abt.1821. They had a son William Owen Cline born 1839 in Ballincollig, Ireland (not sure where that is). William was in the Royal Artillery and was posted to the West Indies where Ellen Alice and Richard were born. Richard eventually made it back to Liverpool and settled there. I'd love to know whether William was also Irish or not and where/when the couple married.

Hello Hollyt,

The Ballincollig Royal Gunpowder Mills were in Ballincollig which isn't all that far from Cork city. The Mills were established in 1794 and were one of Ireland’s most successful industries, producing black powder for the military, mining and quarrying.

That's interesting Christopher- thanks. Do you think army personnel were employed in the factory?

There was a military barracks at Ballincollig and as well as soldiering duties, the soldiers were used to provided a military escort for the shipment of gunpowder to Cork City.

I'd really appreciate some help with my current problem please.
My grt grt grandfather William Cline is shown on the 1841 UK census in Woolwich Arsenal in the Royal Artillery, born abt 1811 and 'Not born in county'. He is with his wife Ellen b. abt. 1821 in Charlemont, Ireland and daughter Mary b. 1840 also born in Charlemont. They had a son William Owen born in Ballincollig 1839 who is absent from the 1841 census. Maybe he died in infancy.
I don't know if William was born in Ireland but it's likely that he and Ellen married in Charlemont. I do not have Ellen's maiden name. Can any one help in any way please?

Am a bit confused here. Only Ballincolligs I could find are in Co. Cork or Co. Tralee and Charlemont barracks were in Co. Armagh as far as I know so what are you hoping to find in Co. Antrim that we might be able to help you with?

Sorry! Just realised my mistake - wrong county. I knew Ballincollig was in Cork but thought Charlemont was in Antrim.

Wondered where Co. Antrim came into it- will ask one of the moderators to move this to Co. Armagh for you(*)

Meanwhile, a bit about Charlemont barracks here if you scroll down to Co, Armagh:
