Once again Rootschat has turned up trumps and has, for the second time in my brief experience with it, provided me with a real live cousin.

And to complete this thread -
from the inscription on a gravestone in the churchyard of Selston St Helens.

In Loving Memory of
William Howitt
who died July 16th 1857
Aged 48 Years
also of
Mary Ann
Wife of the above
who died May 18th 1839
Aged 21 Years

Thanks all, Terry

To TJR Howitt

Hi - I notice you say you have popped over to Selston, just farther along the B600 at the Birchwood Chapel , Birchwood Lane, Somercotes is a record office run by the Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group DARG who are open most Wednesday mornings.  They have a marvellous library of information and hold records for a lot of Derbyshire Parishes of which Tibshelf will probably be included.  Well worth a visit. You can check out DARGs details on genuki:- link below

You may also find records on Selston at DARG as it is literally just over the county border

With hindsight, 'popped over' was perhaps a little understated sorry, as I actually live in Singapore. But I have looked at the the link you gave and notice I can ask questions by post also. Thanks v much and will tell if I get anything on this line. Yours, Tristan
