Medal card query
« on: Wednesday 16 April 08 08:44 BST (UK) »
I downloaded my Grandfathers medal card several yrs ago need some avice
Do they have a front & a back side?
I see some on the same A4 print out the cards have a different layout
eg. Name Corp Rank Reg no across the top
others Campaign (a) & (b)

On Grandads there is no stamped Medals ie victory, star etc

Kind regards Pam

Hi Pam

A very warm welcome to Rootschat :D

If you would like to give your Grandfathers details i.e. full name, Date of Birth Where he lived; then some of the RC's will be able to help you out, with some information about him.

There are a lot of very knowledged people on here that will be pleased to help.

Hi Pam

Welcome to the forum.
If you could post a copy of the MIC on here it would help.

Do you see the word "list" on the card anywhere??

Hi Pam
It could be a Silver War Badge card basically he joined up to do his bit but through illness or injury was discharged

Ill wait for the card and check the pensions list on Ancestry.

I cant actually get it any bigger but from what i can see he WAS awarded a British War and Victory Medal the actual rolls at the NA would have to be consulted to find more the references are in the remarks column book and page number.

He looks like he was discharged with SWB again the SWB Roll can be serached by yourself or a researcher(not online!! :() and this will probably give reason for discharge and dates overseas

I cant make out the remarks in the Remarks column but i think it has to do with reason for discharge. In fact looks like his dates in there as well.

Does it say AO or something similar ?

In the top bit does it say Dorset RGA(Royal Garrison Artillery) ? they were based at Swanage Poole ,Weymouth for a time( and Portland)
