Enoch Williams from ??? Pembroke.
« on: Thursday 17 April 08 20:24 BST (UK) »
Please would a Pembroke expert decipher Enoch Williams' birthplace. He was born about 1784 and moved to Merthyr Tydfil before 1821, which is when (I think) he got married to Maria Davis from Tenby. All the children were born in Merthyr Tydfil.

Hi lambkin,

The only clue is what's in the attached picture - Pembroke, followed by Cairhead? Catshead?

Just had a thought - is my attachment showing up? It is when I view the post.

Yes it is there so don't worry on that score. ;)

Have you thought to contact the Records Office in Haverfordwest they may have some info. I know one of my ancestors lived in a very small hamlet that is no longer on the map.

I live in Pembroke and I haven't heard of it but then it could be somewhere in the North of the county.

Thank you, lambkin. I shall have to do something along those lines. It might not be so bad if I could make out the letters that have been written!

Regards,
Lee.

I sent the link to a friend who works on a local paper she couldn't identify it either. But as I said before sometimes the places do not extinct any more especially if they are really tiny.

I know one of my grandparent/ancestors came from an area that is now part of the army range. It was levelled to the ground and doesn't not appear on any map.

I am not saying that this is the case here though.

Thank you, both, for your help. To be honest, I think I'm going to have to leave this on the back-burner until I get more information. I'll be having a couple of trips to Wales (from deepest Hampshire!) later this year, so I'll add this to my ever-increasing list of "answers required".

Good luck,
Lee.
