Baptism- Cambridge Holy Trinity and St Giles 1798-1805
« on: Thursday 17 April 08 23:23 BST (UK) »
I would be most appreciative if someone could look up the baptism of Eleanor Friere/Freer/Frear in both Cambridge Holy Trinity and Cambridge Saint Giles between 1798-1805.

Many thanks for any assistance!

Hi Joanna from Canada

If you're talking about the Eleanor Frear of Holy Trinity who married Jacob German at St Giles in 1820, in 1851 aged 50 living at Cambridge St Peter she gave her birthplace as Waterbeach, Cambs (Jacob 56 gave his as Whittlesey Cambs)

But using the baptism index on the Cambs FHS website at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html
I can't see a baptism. As the index only starts in 1801 perhaps she was born in 1800. (In 1841 her age was 35 implying a birth between June 1801-June 1806)

Unfortunately Waterbeach hasn't been extracted onto either the IGI or BVRI. Hopefully someone else reading this has the Cambs FHS transcript. I would be tempted to change the subject line on the original message, adding Waterbeach as well

Hi Joanna,
I've looked through the parish registers for Waterbeach and there is no Eleanor Frear baptised but I did find the following which maybe of interest.
John Fear mar Elizabeth Bradle 27 Feb 1798. Wits John Mason and William Handley. They had the following children Sarah bap 22 July 1798
Helen Fear bap 12 Oct 1800
William bap 24 Oct 1802.

Elizabeth bur 29 Dec 1817 age 45
John bur 6 Jan 1833.

Tempsford.

Thanks very much indeed David and tempsford for your help with this brickwall. I think it is indeed very likely that this Helen Fear is the same one as my Eleanor Frear. I had located a William Frear born at this time in Waterbeach listed on the 1871 and 1881 census that is likely to be the same as this William Fear though there is no proven link between William and my Eleanor. I will try to find this Fear family in later census etc and try to identify if the Fears/Frears are indeed the same family and if there are any other proven connections.

Many thanks for your kind assistance!

Baptism- Cambridge Holy Trinity 1806- Gouge
« Reply #4 on: Friday 28 October 11 19:31 BST (UK) »
Could SKS look to see if there is a baptism record for Marianne Gouge/Gogue in 1806. I think she was the daughter of Benjamin & Marianne Gouge.
Thank you!

Hi Joanna. I'm researching my family tree and have just reached John & Elisabeth Fear of Waterbeach.  They had four children; Sarah, Helen and two Johns - one of whom died in infancy. The surviving John's surname became Frear. He is, if my research is as watertight as I think it is, my great, great, great, great grandfather! I have found no Eleanors as yet.
If this is still of interest to you, get back to me? Kind regards, Clive Frear
