What's the 1861 census reference for your William  ???

Ah OK I see - age 25!

Given their oldest daughter is a new born, I'm wondering if the more likely marriage for those 2 isnt:
William Mainwaring - Margaret Davis Jun 1856 Merthyr  :-\

I was thinking the same about the marriage Tati.... :-\

I have Glam Bapt. & marriages pre 1837 (some non conformists are not listed so not complete) not having much luck finding a match for the names/place involved.

Welshwoman, is the 1861 a defo match to your family?

Hi Cas  :)

The one aged 26 on the 1851 census seems to have a mother Mary (1851: HO107/2458 329 73)

Who's your starting point, Welshwoman?  :)

my grandmother was mary ann mainwaring born 1884 in aberdare.  her father was morgan mainwaring 1862 aberdare and her mother gwenllian rees 1865 aberdare.

morgans father was william mainwaring 1831 merthyr tydfil and mother was margaret morris 1832 from blackwood.

OK so your 1861 find was incorrect, what do you think?  :)

Your family:

it looks very likely doesn,t it?

so where are they hiding?  I have them in 1901 - morgan and gwen - but not 1891.  it's madness.

i'd like to thank everyone for the trouble they're taking on my behalf
