Thanks for all the welcomes. I was about to reply to Lydart saying that, actually  I'm not a Catholic, when I realised that here RC stands for the name of this site and not for the well-known world religion.

A familiar name amongst you - Tati. It's my wife's surname. Well not exactly, it's Tatti with two t's, a Sardinian surname, originally from Tuscany.

If anyone's interested, take a look at this site:

http://www.gens.labo.net/it/cognomi/

where you can see the distribution of surnames in Italy. Even my surname, Pain, comes up if you search for it, with a little diamond for 1-5 people in Sassari, Sardinia, which is where I live. You also see there are a few Pains dotted around the north of Italy, because Pain (pronounced Pa-IN) is also a native Venetian surname.

I'm an English Pain, though, but please ask me if you have any queries about things Italian or Sardinian.

Love the baby's toes !

Wish I could use you to find my paternal grandfather, who is reputed to have been Italian.  I have an eastern mediterranean blood group, so it looks probable ...

... but with my father being illegit, not possible !!    :'( :'( :'(
