The Christian Brothers also had schools in Australia as well.

They came in for a lot of bad publicity a few years back, in fact quite horrendous.

Obviously not all their schools were like this but they were renowned for their treatment of their pupils.

My father told me of the beatings that used to be dished out at his Christian Brothers school in Dublin, how cruel some of these people were to little children, unbelievable.

I wrote to the Christian Brothers' Archive a few years ago as my great grandfather grew up in one of their orphanages in Dublin. They sent me details of when he and his brothers arrived there and also when they left.

Having worked for a similar religious order and seen their records, I wonder if they have more information that what they have me. The place I used to work had a large amount of information on each person that ended up there, but a lot of it could be sensitive, so I wonder if they only send out the basic details and if they have more.

My Dad went to Letterfrack 1930-4 I have found it very difficult to get any info apart from when he started and when he left, if anyone knows of a way of getting more information please let me know.
