Radcliffe/McDowell around 1917
« on: Saturday 19 April 08 22:58 BST (UK) »
I'm looking any information regarding Frederick J Radcliffe married Mary McDowell Feb 1917 Clooney Hall. The Radcliffe was in Royal Inniskillen Fusilers. Mary McDowell came from Cuthbert St. i believe there was 3 children to marriage(girls) possibly Freda-Martha & Ella who may have moved to Devon/Cornwall. Any help appreciated.

i don't think you will find births for their children births on line, normally you don't get births that late.i searched the ulster covenant found two Mary McDowell's 11 cuthbert street signed it(checked signatures two different writings) i then found a john same address. i then looked for a marriage for a john McDowell & a Mary between 80s/90s.Derry/l.Derry found this, it might be Mary's parents.

marriage. JOHN MCDOWELL TO MARY GOURLEY 20-2-1893 @ ALL SAINTS CLOONEY COFI,CLONDEMOT,DERRY/LDERRY.

Was Frederick in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers just for the Great War or had he been a soldier before 1914?

Irish Genealogy index shows only 9 Radcliffe births in Co. Derry and only three of them are born after 1917- Helen, Bessie, Mary Agatha- which don't match up to the names you listed. Could the daughters have been born somewhere else like England?

Hi Aghdowey,, Just remembered Fred Radcliffe and Mary McDowell seperated at some stage and he went to USA to live but don't know when .She must have moved back to the maiden city as I remember my grandfather taking me as young child to visit and staying overnight. What sticks in my memory was some one in the house in a British Navy uniform but don't know if he was a relation of McDowells

A Frederick J. Radcliffe signed Ulster Covenant in 1912- living at 39 Cuba Street Belfast South- could this be him? Also at the same address were Hugh, Jane and 2 Josephs.
However, because of his age it's possible he didn't actually sign the Covenant.

Can't see any sign of Frederick in U.S. records yet. Checked Findmypast index and nothing for a Frederick Radcliffe born c895 going to U.S. but there was a Frederick born 1896 going to Wellington, N.Z. in 1938.
