1871 Census for ARMSTRONG please
« on: Sunday 20 April 08 10:56 BST (UK) »
I am researching my grandmother Mary Elizabeth ARMSTRONG.  Her parents are Edward ARMSTRONG 1840 and Jane MAUGHAM, 1853 both previously married.

Robert ARMSTRONG bn Bywell St Peter 1815 and Elizabeth DODD bn Haydon 1820, on the 1881 census are his parents.  I would like to find out where they were in 1871 and if Edward was with them as I am not sure how many children they had altogether.

In 1881 they were in Shotton Durham,  with Mary 36, Robert, 31, Humphrey Robson 28 all born Bywell St Peter.  Mary's son John ARMSTRONG aged 2 bn Castle Eden, is with them.   My grandfather is a Widower aged 40 in Wingate, with sons Robert 8 and Francis 4, and a Housekeeper.

I have obtained the the later Census's up to 1901 from Durham Records.  I have just applied for the marriage of Robert,  who married at Fafield Church in 1901 my great Uncle.

Thank you for this I had the Microfiche for 1851 and have several children William,1846 John 1847 and Jane 1849.   I have researched the Bywell St Peter's Parish Registers for them, it looks as though some of them may have died.

Snap Tricia! (and Hi! :D)

They're all in Scotland in 1861 apparently (minus Edward, who's lodging somewhere in England). There's a son Stephen age 4 as well.

Thank you all for your input.  It is very helpful and adds Stephen ARMSTRONG as I had no idea he existed.

I have to find the first marriage of Edward ARMSTRONG, he married Jane CRANSON a widow 18 Dec 1871 and he was a widower then.  Then Jane MAUGHAM a widow 28 Aug 1881, as a widower.

Robert 1872 Shotton and Francis 1874 Wingate were born to Jane CRANSON.   My grandmother Mary Elizabeth was born in 1884 Quebec  Durham and their first child, attended school in Washington according to what she told me herself!

Thank you  very much again,
