If you put Dinorwic into Old Maps
www.old-maps.co.uk

you will see Ty Ddewi above and slightly to the left of the word DINORWIC

Hi Gwil

Thank you VERY much for the information about this Williams family from Ty Ddewi.  It leads me to conclude that the registrar in Caernarfon has sent me the wrong birth certificate. I have a marriage certificate dated Oct 22, 1853 for Ann Davies age 21 of Penyffridd, father David Williams, Quarryman.  This led me to the David Williams family in Rhiwlas in 1841 and Penyffridd in 1851.   Without a baptism for Ann, or a marriage for father David, I asked the registrar to send the birth certificate for the daughter Margaret Williams d/o David & Catherine born 1839, to hopefully discover the mother's maiden name.  So much for that idea - another useless piece of paper to add to the bonfire!

This was all from the days when I was naive/arrogant/stupid enough to think I could go back further with family history in this area.   It is quite a minefield -  living so far away and particularly without benefit of any Welsh.   All I can say is thank goodness the experience in Clwyd is the polar opposite.

My father warned me years ago that researching his family further back was a hopeless cause.   He was absolutely RIGHT - he's probably up there having a damn good chuckle right now!!  I'm afraid the quarrymen's mysteries are too much for me - "they" win and can keep their secrets.   I hereby officially GIVE UP on ****** Llanddeiniolen  :'(

Don't give up .

You are right in saying that doing the research from a distance (Canada?) is hard but at least you have modern communications to assist which is more than people have had in the past.
I should imagine that Llanddeiniolen is no more difficult than any other area in the UK

If you want to PM me with what you know to be right I.e  your initial family information and not what you have researched I will gladly help you as much as I can.

Hi Gwil & Quarryman  :)

I apologize for my tantrum :-[   Thank you both for the kind words of encouragement.

I feel let down by the registrar but it just goes to illustrate once again, for all of us, that we should never trust just one source of information in our research.  The difficulty in dealing with this area is that access to the information is so very limited - most of the time I feel like a blind giant trying to catch mice ;D

I'm going to take a few days to study the documents & censuses which I know from family relationships are 100% correct and regroup from there.

Best wishes
Heather
