Connell + Conway Co Kildare
« on: Monday 05 April 04 12:18 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace William Connell born abt 1836 Co Kildare to a Joseph Connell and Sarah
Also Ann Conway born abt 1841 to James Conway and Mary
Most likely around Ballymore Eustace
Moved from Ireland to Liverpool after the famine
Any info would be greatly appreciated ???
O'Connell, Robinson, Conway, Cunningham (Liverpool and Ireland)
Smith, Vallis, Fry (Somerset), Horrocks (London), Neighbour (Bucks).

Hi Sue

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

All I really know for certain is that William Connell married Ann Conway 27th sept 1863 St Anthony's Rc Chapel Scotland Rd Liverpool. Both ages are stated as 23 years but ages vary with subsequent census returns so I'm not quite sure which is correct. In the parish register the grooms' parents are Joseph & Sarah Connell and the bride's are James & Mary Conway. Anecdotal family history claims they came from Ballymore Eustace in Co kildare. Census returns indicate place of birth as Co kildare. There is in fact a James Conway listed  in Ballymore Eustace on Griffith's Valuation but I have no way of knowing if this is him as no other family members are given. There do not seem to be any Connells. So far I have been unable to establish exactly when the move to Liverpool took place and I haven't any proof that the parents made the journey or if it was only the bride and groom.
Any suggestions about how to proceed with this query please?
Sue

Hi Sue

The family may well be from Ballymore Eustace in County Kildare.  The name Conway is more common in Tyrone, Mayo and Sligo so I wouldn't rule them out.

Sorry I can't be any more help at this point - don't give up, I'm sure we'll get there in the end.

Best wishes

Why not check the Ballymore Eustace catholic parish records? They are available with baptisms from Mar 8 1779 - Apr 27 1792
Jan 10 1787 - Mar 1 1790
May 3 1792 - Apr 6 1796
Jan 5 1797 - Oct 28 1830
Apr 23 1826 - Dec 26 1838
Jan 1 1839 - Apr 27 1854
May 7 1854 - Dec 31 1880
in the National library in Dublin.
