Shea in carrick?
« on: Thursday 24 April 08 13:36 BST (UK) »
I realise I don't have a lot of info to go on, but some pointers would be really great. This is my first time into the Irish genealogy.

According to the census's of Thornbury, Gloucestershire my John Shea was born in Carrick - on - suir, Tipperary, around 1797. His wife Mary Ann was also born in Ireland. I am assuming they got married in Ireland but is there any way of finding their marriage? They seemed to have been in England by 1825ish.

Thanks for reading. :)

Civil registration of marriages began in 1864 (Catholic) or 1845 (others). You would need to search for church records (if they still exist) to see if the marriage is listed but to do so you need to know their religion and where they lived (marriages usually but not always took place in the bride's church).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
