Seeking burial/death STEPHENSON
« on: Thursday 24 April 08 15:17 BST (UK) »
Hi,

i'm searching for the burial or year of death of Shotton Stepheson born 1816 Easington, Durham.  I have him on 1841 and 1851 census's but no trace after, I assume he may have passed away sometime before 1861, can anyone help?

Cheers Ed.

There is a marriage for Shotton Stevenson , March 1852, Sunderland, 10a/330

Possible wives are: Mary A walker or Elizabeth Wilson.

Is this yours or another family member?

Thats possible...

Shotton married Anne Winship 11 jun 1838 in Easington... but by the 1851 census he was a widower, living as an Inn keeper in Southgate, Hartlepool...

Hi

I can see on A******y that there Naturalisation records for Philadelphia Declaration of intent 3rd July 1855 Quarter Sessions for a Shotton Stephenson with a pace of origin as England - sorry can't give any more info than that as can't acces records.

So perhaps that is where he is

ah ok... that could explain his disappearance perhaps...

I checked on sunderland registrar site and Shotton Stephenson married Mary A Walker in 1852... thanks.

Having failed to find him on 1861, that was going to be my next suggestion. Maybe there is someone with access to US records who can give you more details. Unfortunately, the passenger lists on Find My Past don't start until 1890.

Good luck,

Jen

there is a Shotton Stephenson in the passenger lists for Pennsylvania but i'm not a subscriber to that site...   99% sure it must be him though.

Thanks Ed.
