I have just been reading this thread with shivers going down my back. The person you are talking about is my great, great, great grandfather. I went to the battlefields where he was killed a few years ago and saw the anzac memorial with his name on it. Thank you all so much for your hard work on uncovering this, its truely amazing.

Hello Ben, I've come over from the other thread that I started with my query about Alfred Parr having seen your message on there - its lovely to hear from you.  Elizabeth and Charles Newbon were my great great grandparents, my great grandma was Ruth who I believe may have been their youngest.  I don't have any pictures of Alfred but am seeing my grandparents tomorrow so will see if they know of any.  Did you also know that Alfred's name is on the Carillon War Memorial in Loughborough?
Regards
Leah

Oh, just another thought Ben.  I saw your question about details of Alfred's promotion.  I found his service records on line and it has the information on there, you can order a copy of them in a presentation file, which I have done.  The promotion looks to have been unfortunate because it was due to the death of another officer.  I guess that was what they came to expect then though.  This is the link to his service record - I hope it works.  If not, pm me your e-mail address and I'll be happy to e-mail the link through.

Alfred's record is digitised and online at

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch.aspx
>Search now...as a guest user

I searched using his name and then Date - 1920...which will bring up 3 records.  On his record click on the icon to view.

Glad to see that Leah and Ben have both managed to find this thread,  and that we've helped yet more relatives of Alfred Parr with his story.

Yes i did know, my grandfather (Rev. Kenneth Newbon) Often talkas about him as i have been very interested for a long time about the family history.

It would be interesting to see the family tree that you have, as i know Charles Newbon and Elizabeth had at least 4 children and one of them Charles Newbon (gees this name continues well) Married Florence brookes in 1924 in Loughborough to which i have the original marriage certificate and the family bible that was presented to Charles and Florrie by her dad (the bible dates from 1862). They only had one son Kenneth who married Nancy Hickling and had four kids, 3 girls and one boy and out of that there is now 9 grandchildren (this is where i am) and 3 great granchildren and another one just heard about yesterday on its way. I hope this gives you a bit of an insight into the family on my side :)

Regards

Ben

I have heard mention of Kenneth, but never had any other details.  I'll go through it with my Grandad tomorrow evening and see if we can work out where everyone fits in - I'll keep you posted.  Its really Good to be in touch with other extended family members  :)
