How can I find any information about....

Hi all,  My Grandads brother emigrated to Canada.  I dont know a lot about him, he was born in 1900 in gatedhead Durham.  He emigrated but that is all I know.
I have just found a Edward Chaters the right age ariving in Halifax Scotia Canada 1934.  No sign of a family with him.  He sailed on the Montclair, Canadian Pacific.

Is there a way I could find anything about him and/or his decenants in canada.  Is there a Canadian Census and has it also got this 100 year rule?  Could I search a death index?

There's a board for emigrants. I'm sure somebody reading it will know the position in Canada. You might get somebody who knows about it reading the Durham board, but the emigrants board would have far more readers.
