The marriage of David Walter Jenkins and Fanny Marshall Hortop took place in St.Mary's, the parish church for Swansea. Fanny was a resident of Walter Road  suggesting that the marriage took place in her parish. Noted that David Walter was an Accountant which fits in with the declared occupation of Book-keeper in the Philadelphia Census Returns. I have not managed to find an emigration/ship entry for him.

Burial entries suggest that Fanny is included in the St. Mary's Parish Registers. I have just now found that indexed entry and will check the actual parish record later.

I had hoped to find a burial entry for David Jenkins, father of David Walter but there are 44 of that name indexed for Glamorganshire between 1850 and 1860, the likely time span. That index is part of "Find my past" entries, a subscription site.I will try and narrow that down by looking up the 1851 Census entries covering St Thomas and Port Tennant. A burial entry for David senior may possibly lead to a baptism/christening entry for David W. I am not ready to admit defeat just yet!

You may already have the following birth entries but no matter:

Helena Jeanette birth registered Swansea RD entry 775 or 776 Quarter September 1886.
Evaline Marshall Jenkins registered Swansea RD entry 750? Quarter December 1887.
Fanny Hortop Jenkins Registered Swansea RD entry 802 Quarter September 1889.

Miers Street, St Thomas and the pub still exist.

Rees(e); Pennsylvania.
Lewis, Llandilofawr.

Hi Bev

Thanks to you and your dad, he certainly does like a challenge! ;D

There is a lot more new info there for me which is great; I did not have the births of Helena's sisters and the fact that the pub still exists is really   'putting meat on the bones' as they say!

This part is from my father;

Burial service for Fanny Marshall Jenkins, 6 Jeffreys Place, held on September 28 1898 at St Mary's Church with note in register margin indicating cemetery burial. That gives three possible locations viz. Danygraig, Oystermouth or Cwmgelli.

The Archives hold fully indexed copies of 1851 Census returns for Glamorgan. Not one David Jenkins of the right age included for St Thomas/Port Tennant and only four in the whole of Swansea. There is just one possibility, and only a possibility, and that is David Jenkins(29), his wife Jane(24)and daughter Sarah(1) at the Three Crowns, High St. Swansea. David shown as Licensed Victualler. No sign of Jane in 1861 and a Sarah Jenkins, age 10, recorded as a visitor elsewhere.

Whatever luck I may have had has now run out and I have to admit defeat. I leave you continue with your searches and wish you luck - it seems you will need it!.

I might be able to find out which cemetery Fanny is buried in.

Bev.

Hi Sue,

Fanny Marshall Jenkins is buried in Danygraig Cemetery Plot G Grave 424. Also in the grave is a 3 week old baby, Henry W. Jenkins buried 24th August 1885.

I'll take a photo as soon as I can get over there - probably at the weekend.

Hi Sue

What a lovely surprise, yes I would appreciate any info you have :D

The only info I have on Fanny's parents are from Census info ie father - William  born c1812 in Devon and mother Julia C1812.  The dates are probably a bit out so I would love to know more about this side of the family tree.

Regards
Sue
