Tragic death of 3 boys in 1859 at Pembrey
« on: Sunday 27 April 08 10:08 BST (UK) »
I am opening this up to as wide an audience as possible in case someone has previously come across this tragic event and knowns more about it.

I was looking at the Pembrey burial records for deaths of family members at Cruglond/Cruylont/Grygland (there seems to be various spellings of this address) and came across:

22 March 1859, Evan Davies, Age 14, Abode Crygland, Drowned (Evan is a known relative)
22 March 1859, David Davies, Age 12, Abode Crygland, Drowned

There was also reference to another drowning

22 March 1859, Henry Morgan, Age 9, Abode Butcher's Arms, Drowned

The burial entries all make reference to each other so they definitely all died together in the same incident.

A very tragic and sad tale, which I wonder if any one else has come across in their research and knows more details about.

Thank you

Roy

It seems the boys went out late in the afternoon on the Cefn Sidan sands to look at the wrecks of two vessels that had grounded in a gale. They stayed too long, the sea surrounded them on their way back, and they were drowned in full view of helpless onlookers on the shore.
