Crossley - search for relatives
« on: Monday 28 April 08 21:38 BST (UK) »
I'm searching for the relatives of James Foxall CROSSLEY (born in 1920-1921?)son of John and Elizabeth Crossley.
He was pilot officer (volonteer reserve) in the RAF, 298 squadron, airfield at Tarrant Rushton (Dorset) and died aged 24 in a plane crash in Normandy, july 1944.
Any help would be much appreciated.

This may be his birth reg

Dec qtr 1919
james F Crossley
mother's maiden name Foxall
Wakefield district
W Riding Yorks

Thought having his p.o.b. may help recognise him more easily

This looks like the marriage:

John Crossley  Sep 1913   Wakefield  9c  15     spouse  Foxall

and 2 children before James:  Lucy F    Dec   1915

                                               George L  Sep  1917

Info found on FreeBMD

As there is a chance Lucy and George could still be alive  please send any info by PM to Evan712.

Thank you for your answer.
It could be the J F Crossley I am searching yes.
Something odd though. It seems that Foxall was his mother's name and also his first name. Could this be possible ? as I'm not used to English names it's seems strange to me.

Where can I find informations about Lucy and Georges, please ?
Lucy might have changed her name if she got married but not Georges.
Hopefully,
Evelyne

Hi Evelyne,

His name was James Foxall Crossley; many families use the mother's maiden name, most often as a second name and sometimes as a first name.

I have examples of both in my own family tree.

You would need to search for any possible marriages for Lucy and George on www.ancestry.co.uk .  This would need to be quarter by quarter and is only available to subscribers.  These are for English and Welsh marriages only.

If you find a marriage you could then look for any children.

There is always the possibility of an early death for either Lucy or George or even emigration to places like Canada, Australia, New Zealand, S. Africa.

By the way the airfield at Tarrant Rushton is still in use for private planes.
