Gilbert Harry WW1 Military Medal,Military Cross and Bar
« on: Tuesday 29 April 08 04:00 BST (UK) »
I am interested in Gilbert Harry born Guernsey who migrated to Queensland just before WW1 intending to start farming.
He enlisted in the AIF in 1915 as an armourer sergeant.
In 1916 near Pozieres he won the military medal.By 1918 he had won the Military Medal,Military Cross and a bar to his Military Cross for bravery and determination.
He died in Queensland 21 Mar 1931.
I would like to learn more about him.

Theres 46 pages online of his service record...The London Gazette will have his Gallantry awards in them.
His MM is in the 21st Sept 1916 Supplement.
Hopefully citations for MC actions.

Thank you gazania and MMM45.
Do you happen to know of a site for the Lonon Express supplement which can be accessed on line?

Try here for the recommendations:

http://www.awm.gov.au/honours/

It looks like he was recommended for the DCM but got the MM instead.

His MC was a new year's honour - no citation in the Gazette:

London Gazette 1-1-1918

http://www.gazettesonline.co.uk/ViewPDF.aspx?pdf=30450&geotype=London&gpn=51&type=ArchivedSupplementPage&all=&exact=Gilbert%20Harry&atleast=&similar=

You'll just have to make do with the lengthy recommendation on the AWM site!  :D

His Bar has a citation:

London Gazette 7-11-1918

http://www.gazettesonline.co.uk/ViewPDF.aspx?pdf=30997&geotype=London&gpn=13143&type=ArchivedSupplementPage&all=&exact=Gilbert%20Harry&atleast=&similar=
