Surname Longe???

Just (possibly) got a little further in getting across the water to Ireland.

One of my very distant cousins married one of his cousins in 1902 (but in Wales). I'm aware that she was definately Irish, and I couldn''t locate her on the 1901 Welsh Census (although her husband to be is there and unmarried).

I've just found that her name was Bridget Longe - they were buried in the Roman Catholic part of the local cemetary, and the only member of my family who often surprises me with new info has suggested that the marriage was severely frowned upon due to the family connection, and so they didn't have any children.

The family she married into (White) are showing on early UK Census as being from Cork (unknown where exactly), so I'm hoping she may have been as well, although I have no further info other than she would have been born around 1876 to 1880.

'Would anyone:
a) have come across this name in thier research
b) have any idea where the surname is popluar in Ireland?

IGI lists 12 Bridget Longs alone so you will probably need more information to find her.

Thanks for that - I've been doing this for years and years, and I only got to grips with freebmd.org.uk yesterday!

Will have a look at IGI and try and figure it out - now have a marriage cert, so have her father's name

Father is a James Longe - I may have found a match on IGI last night with the mother given as an Inde (?) White.

Since they are supposed to be cousins, and she married a White, I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I've got no idea how to get any further - will get hold of her death cert (died in Wales) and see what further info that may give

Someone will be able to correct me if I'm wrong but don't think parents will be listed on death certificate.

Sorry - should have clarified!

I know the parents won't be on there, but am hoping that since she died after her husband (last of the White's), whoever signed the cert on behlaf of the family may lead to a new trail.

Can't remember when they started putting DOB's o nthe death cert's either, but this may help me narrow down any matches from IGI
