Marriage certificates in Dorset.
« on: Wednesday 30 April 08 15:10 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can tell me if you can get a copy of a marriage certificate from the year 1694 at Edmondsham Dorset. I have found it online so maybe it would be possible.
Thanks regards Chris

Hi Chris,

It will not be a certificate but an entry in the parish register.  Certificates started with civil registration in 1837.

Where online have you found it?   Perhaps that organisation can make a copy for you.

If the register is at the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester you might be able to get a copy from them; not sure of their fees.

Hello, Chris,

You will not get any sort of marriage cert for 1694 that will give you any info.  Any marriage at this date is normally a single one-line entry giving the couple's name's with the date of marriage at the church within a list of other marriages taking place within a few days of each other.  No info on parents or any witneses are shown.
