Hi there,

Gramma Rett's parents are Alexander Mitchell Briggs & Jane Matthew. An address of 13 Annfield Row Dundee is given as her residence & she married at 9 Airlie Place.  Carole found a family of Matthews' with a George Murray living with them & their address is 16 Annfield St Angus.
Jane Matthew was first married to a Murray, whose 1st name we have always been told was George. Gramma & Aunt Rena could possibly have the 1st name wrong.
I can't find a Henrietta Briggs born in 1897 or a Rena Briggs born 1906, I can find Henrietta Matthew & Rena Matthew for these years. I can also find their brothers as Matthew.
Another searcher found an entry for the marriage of George Murray & Jane Matthew married 1889 Lochee district Dundee, now I'm not sure this is them. I really need a marriage register to find out Janes' parents names, either to Mr. Murray or Alexander Briggs.
Thanks for all your help it has been greatly appreciated.
Lisa

Hi Lisaw,

I have found a marriage of a Jane Ann Matthews to a Richard Murray, 12 January 1857 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland. This is an extracted record on IGI. I think this could be a bit early for your Jane Matthew.

Will keep trying.

Hi Lisaw,

I saw the marriage of George Murray and Jane Matthew, 1889 in Lochee, Dundee on SP, could be worthwhille looking at this to confirm parents names etc. I checked deaths on SP and there were 4 George Murray deaths between 1889 and 1901, in Dundee but not Lochee.

I decided to search & see if the John & Willhemena Matthew family had a daughter named Jane. They did.
Jane Smith Matthew born Oct 16 1866 Bancory Devenick, Kincardine, Scotland.

Jane Matthew/Murray/Briggs states she is either born in New Machar Aberdeen or Aberdeen Aberdeenshire.

Does Kincardine relate to Aberdeen? are they neighboring counties?

Thanks again,
Lisa

Hi Lisaw,

Kincardineshire is next to Aberdeenshire, in a southerly direction. Banchory is not too far from Aberdeenshire.

Hi Lisaw,

On SP, there is Jane Smith Matthew married in 1881 (she would be 15?) in Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire. Could be a worthwhile one to download. She is not married to a Murray or Briggs.

Hi Lisaw,

Just to confuse things, there is a Jane Smith Matthew born 11 April 1853  to parents George Matthew and Elizabeth Ruxton, this is more likely to be the one involved in marriage in SP. Marriage in 1881 would make her 28.

Its never easy!

Hi Tom,
I don't think you could confuse me anymore than I already am. I thought I was "armed & dangerous" with the info I have for this family, but apparently I'm not.
But after a nights sleep I woke up with this revelation: I know that Jane & Mr. Murray had a son named William. I know William had a son named Alexander Briggs Murray, my Dad has told us several times over the years he has a cousin in Scotland with the same name as him, but different surnames. I know they lived in Methil during WW2. I found out that William Murray married Helen Robertson.....so why don't I look at their marriage register 1st & that will give me Mr Murrays' 1st name for sure. I really hate to doubt what my Gramma & Aunt said, but they were pretty old at the time of questioning & Mr. Murray isn't their Dad, so they may not be right that his name is George, although they did stay as close as they could to their brother William Murray & did go back to Scotland to visit.
Thanks again for all you've done,
Lisa
