William Comrie Supervisor of Excise married Janet Jackson on 22.12.1799. She was the daughter of several times provist of Dumfries Robert Jackson. I have found the family tombstone in St Michael's OP Churchyard in Dumfries which contained a lot of information.
Where I have had problems is with the children of William and Janet Comrie. Their girls seem to have been given the same (or similar) names. Or did they die and a new baby got the dead person's name?
Can anyone help me with the names of the children of William and Janet?
I know one was called Janet Elizabeth Comrie and that she married a Thomas Harkness in 1825. She is also known as Jessie (death certificate of 1862).
I think Thomas Harkness was born 1797 in Closeburn. He was the son of William Harkness (Farmer) and Janet Walker.
His brother John was an LLD and signed the death certificate of his son Thomas who died in 1871.
Does anyone have a match/link to Thomas? Does anyone know what his occupation was?
