Hi thanks for all this info they seem quite a large family.
Im puzzled with William though the father of robert & ann .
William according to census is born Halesby ? Northumberland.
then selby on another ?

William is just recorded as born Yorkshire on the 1841(though the 'y' that denotes this is very smudged). On the 1851 he is recorded as born Northumberland. I can't really decipher the actual town  - that's why I posted it for you.His age varys on both these census.

His son William is recorded as born Selby Yorkshire.

I can't prove any of this one way or the other - I can only tell you what the census says and there are often mistakes. Very annoying but there you are

thanks ive had a quick look on IGI incase i can locate him - but nothing.I tried to locate the parish in Northumberland but cant find that either

I had a look on genuki Northumberland at all the place names;
