"World Vital Records"
« on: Saturday 03 May 08 10:41 BST (UK) »
I have just heard about this web site (it's probably been around for ages  ::) ) and was wondering if anyone has joined and is it, or was it, useful.

It does appear to have a lot for USA - somewhat like Ancestry, but would love to know what other people think

Thanks

Di

Well as a test, I put in my John Williams (you'd think quite a common sort of name) and it tells me there are none !

Did you read the "About Us"?

Not a site I'll be bookmarking!

Ditto a James Smith.   Not one single one that fitted the information I entered - needless to say I didn't take it any further.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I also tried some of my ancestors - without a Location and I had success with all of them.

I think they have a lot of work to do on the site before it reaches a respectable standard.

Di

PS - Thanks Bob for adding the link. I should have done that  :P

I have been a member of this site since almost it's inception.  It is a brand new site..(been in existance only a few months).  It promises to be an excellant site however.  Every day there is new material being posted onto it but of course, because it is new, you are not going to be able to find everything on there immediately.  Give it six months and I think it will out do ancestry.

There is two types of memberships.  US Only and World.  I would recommend the World which I have.  For awhile I had only the US membership and found it limited since very little of my research is US based.

I highly recommend this site.

Looks interesting.  If they have records from Eneclann - anything to help with Irish research!  They seem to have quite a good spread of databases, though I'm not interested in the American stuff.  Will think about it!  Thanks, Di, for mentioning it!

Hi Judi,

Welcome to RootsChat - you will thoroughly enjoy this great site - the best anywhere for Family History Research - and they are a very friendly crowd as well.

Thanks for your impression of World Vital Records.

I was interested in the site as they said they had a copy of NSW Police Gazette 1890 where a mention of one of my family was made.

See here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,302581.0.html

Unfortunately when I did a search on the site, the NSW Gazette 1890 didn't show as a "hit" so I was a bit wary.

Good to know that you are happy with it anyway.

Thanks

Di

You're welcome MarieC - it's amazing how many new sites there are on the net and you just never know which ones are worthwhile unless we try it and ask other's opinion.
Happy hunting  ;D
