Davis / Bunce - Lewisham
« on: Sunday 04 May 08 16:11 BST (UK) »
Hello everybody!  This is my first post, so I hope I am not going to sound too silly!

I am trying to research my tree and have got stuck - so early on.

My Gr. Grandparents on my mothers side are George William DAVIS and Emily Martha BUNCE.

I know that

1. Emily Martha was born abt. 1893 and died 8 Sep 1949. (I have her "In loving memory card")
2. George William was born abt. 1887.
3. They married on 22 December 1913 in Lewisham. (I have a copy of the marriage cert).
4. They married by Certificate in the Wesleyan Methodist Church.
5. George and Emily are on the marriage certificate as having the same residence at the time of marriage.
6. Georges father Benjamin Davis is deceased on the MC.

I am really stuck on how to get any further information.  I have tried on ancestry and familyhistory.  Can anyone help, please?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Feenie

Welcome to Rootschat

Is there any father listed for Emily on the marriage certificate and, if so, does he have an occupation?  Likewise, what is George William's occupation and is there any occupation listed for his deceased father, Benjamin?

Do you know if George William served in any of the armed forces during WW1?

Hi Casalguidi,

Thanks for replying so quickly!

Yes - Emilys father is Henry Bunce occ. Platelayer.  Benjamin is also listed as a Platelayer.

I have no idea if George William served in WW1 - His occupation on MC is Coachman (not domestic - I think).

Sorry about lack of info....but hope something will help.

Yes it is ;)

I have a feeling that they may be her parents that we have found in 1891 but I can't yet see anything in 1901 :-\

1 Hope? Yard, Lewisham

Henry BUNCE? head mar 45 platelayer b.Dunton Green Kent
Mary wife 38 b.Dunton Green Kent
Henry G son 6 b.Lewisham London
Emily M dau 8 b.Dunton Green Kent

RG13/548 folio 98 page 38

There is some doubt over the surname, it's not very clear, but it's the nearest I could see.

Dunton Green would be a hamlet within the parish of Otford.

Feenie, I think you can probably quite safely order Emily Martha's birth certificate - the 1893 Sevenoaks one.
