   Hi Jack ......

  Yes she is female and there is a S or squiggle in front of the t which is small not capitol......... spelt as it sounded to enumerator as opposed to correct spelling........... it just says mariners and the whole family are bracketed together. It is from the original image.

just a thought and sorry to shove a spanner in the works but if the 1841 staminon aged 32yrs and the tamson 39yrs in 1851 were the correct family that would have made her in her low teens when william was born c 1822 are we sure we have the correct family in the cencuses?

I would think it extremely unlikely that there were two ladies with that name having children of those names?  Perhaps she didn't really know how old she was - loads of mine didn't seem to  :o

where are 5yr old thomas baptised in swanage and robert samuel bapt late 1820's??

22nd jan 1826 robert samuel shinkfield son of matthais and tamsden bapt studland
i agree tamsden elizabeth bapt 29th june 1828 could be the elizabeth but what about thomas bapt 1835?
