Wittman Family

I am researching the Wittman family of Pork Butchers who came to England in the 1860's. and settled in Bradford, Sculcoates and Driffield areas.  I would be delighted to hear from anyone
connected to this family.

I have just found this web site after trying to dig deeper.  my great grandmother was a rose steinbach, sister to Matilda Wittman, married to George Wittman, pork butchers in Hull, who came over from Wurttemberg.  I wondered why she had first married and lived in Otley, and i think the link may have been with the Weegmann's, still pork butchers in otley!   maybe wht Wittmann's knew the Weegmanns, anyway, i wont go on, just interested to answer this thread.

Welcome to Rootschat, I am sure you will find everyone on here very helpful, you only have to ask and so many 'friends' will willing go the extra mile to help further your research.

It's quite a while back since I posted my query about the Wittmans, and although I have struggled with this side of the family, I have made a little bit of progress.  George Wittman was the brother to gt.grandmother Mary Schellenberg (nee Wittman) and he was one of the witnesses at the marriage of Mary and George Frederick Schellenberg in Pontefract in 1872.  If you would like to PM me, I can probably give you a little more information.

so are we talking about the same George Wittman, born 1845 in Werttemberg, Germany?   are you saying he had a sister called Mary who came over too?   my George Wittman married Matilda Steinbach and they had 3 children as far as I know, George Frederick, Matilda and Julia.  Lived in Hull, I know precisely where!  The name Frederick I had presumed to come from Matilda's father.  that was his name.
