Hi I'm new to this forum so I hope I get this right. A good place to start would be The Presbyterian Historical Library, Church House(Room 218), Fisherwick Place, Belfast. Sorry I don't have a phone number or e-mail address but I will try to find one. Also, early Presbyterian records were also recorded in the local Church of Ireland records.
Best wishes and good luck

Hi I've just looked at the website for the presbyterian records and I'm afraid they don't do geneology. But they may be able to point you in the right direction. The phone number is (028) 90322284 and e-mail: librarian[at]presbyterianhistoryireland.com *
Best wishes

* please replace the [at] with @ in the e-mail address

Hi,
Newmills presbyterian Church is near the border of Seagoe Parish in Tullylish Parish.  The congregation would be comprised of those living in both parishes.

The surname Adamson is well known within the church. Some of the founding elders were from the Adamson family. It might be worth a look considering it also mentions a Thomas Adamson. Here is the web address for it's history.

I hope the link works .

Good luck in your quest.

Dear Barbara

Very many thanks for that wonderful information - which is most encouraging.    I feel now that I may be on the right track ?

I was wondering if you may have some advice please, as to where I should now look for parish records ?

Any advice or suggestions - most appreciated.   :)

My thanks again.

Lu

Hi Lucy,

I think you are on the right track with Newmills too.  I live  within a mile of the church (the same road to be exact!!). I have been in contact with several people who are interested in the surnames connected with the church. Some related (albeit distantly ) to me some not.  I'll check my contact list later today ie. when kids are not about etc and get back to you. Also it may be worthwhile contacting Portadown family history society (I am a member of it) as I know that a few of its members are transcribing the headstone inscriptions there.

If you are able to give me more info on the family names etc I can also see if I can help.

Talk soon,

Barbara

If the family was Presbyterian you are looking for church records not parish records (the Church of Ireland also know as the Established Church has parishes but Presbyterian churches are grouped into Presbyteries). Think you are getting confused with civil parishes (which is a group of townlands).
Have you searched for church records in LDS catalogue at www.familysearch.org to see if they've been microfilmed and if they cover the dates you need? If so you can order the film from your local LDS library for a small fee to be viewed there.
