Hi Gillian
I think its a reference number for his citation in the London Gazette though ive not had a look yet
Charles G Frosts campaign Medal Card is on Ancestry to view also his date of entry to theatre and Died of Wounds is on there entitled to 1915 Trio.

Thank you very much Ady,  :D

I have now found the London Gazette entry and his service records on ancestry; enlistment, medals, operations, next of kin etc ...which is wonderful, thank you..but, excuse my ignorance, is that the same information that you mentioned or is there something else I'm not seeing?

What exactly is 1915 trio?   ???
Sorry to be such a numskull, Gillian

He has got a medal index card on there which tells you which medals he was entitled to plus the date he went overseas.

A trio is a Star(1914/1915) British War Medal and Victory Medal,A pair is minus the Star ie he went overseas after 1915 these are all campaign medals awarded to all who went. The DCM is a gallantry Medal awarded for bravery in the field.

Its great you have his service record you are V Lucky oly 30% survived ;D

But.. :-[ I'm so new to this I just don't understand. I have found two more entries for A H Frost service no. 9577....can you pleeease help me decipher them.

Hi Gillian

The cross with the four dots on his MIC indicate what was impressed on his medals. The BWM and Victory medals were impressed with Sergeant, while the DCM had the rank of Corporal.
