Quakers in the Hornsea area
« on: Sunday 11 May 08 08:46 BST (UK) »
The Acklam (or Acklom) family were Lords of the Manor of Hornsea, living at the Old Hall on Southgate, and were Quakers.  They were friendly with the Harrisons, also Quakers.  I can find bits of information about the Acklams but there don't appear to be any records of the Quakers in the Hornsea area (or I can't find them!) and no mention of the Harrisons.  If anyone has any snippet of information on the subject, I'd be grateful.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Have you tried

www.bmdregisters.co.uk

They've just added Quaker records. I did a quick search for Acklam and it came up with quite a few in Yorkshire - a good omen?  ???

The site seems to be extremely slow- and very expensive butprobably worth it if you find what you're looking for!

I'll try it.  The Quaker records on the Hull University site don't include Acklams far back enough.
