Hi

No their original birth is not removed, and it is still possible as usual to send for the certificate. But there is no link between the original name and birth cert, and that of the adopted name (assuming it changed) and the adoption cert.

No problems,

If you know the original name then obviously you can get the birth cert, but unless you are the adoptee, and go through an intermediary organisation you cannot find out the link between the birth cert to the adoption cert.

hi,

i am also trying to find an adoption certificate.  I have ordered the original birth certificate and know the names of the adotive parents.

Is it possible to get hold of any adoption records relating to a case?  I am struggling to find any records from the orphanage but i believe there may be court records somewhere????????????

If you are still referring to Scottish adoption records, then only the adoptee is allowed access to these records.

There is a procedure for this but you have to go through the proper channels.

We have a number of threads on adoption here on RootsChat.  This one lists a number of them as well as information about gaining access to the original records.
