This site is well worth reading - terrible conditions these people had to work in.

I cannot seem to open www.mining-villages.co.uk
When I try, it says untitled document on the tab at the top, and says Done, but the page is blank.
This works though: http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/
e.g. http://www.scottishmining.co.uk/5.html

Thanks for replying as yes it has been a long time.
Here's another:
http://www.almondvalley.co.uk/V_home.htm
Shale Villages a project by Almond Valley Heritage Trust, Millfield, Livingston, West Lothian EH54 7AR.
Tel 01506 414957 includes  The Villages - a comprehensive list of worker's housing provided by Scotland's shale oil companies, with maps, images and descriptions - and The Projects, a diary of the work being undertaken with Shale Village communities to record, research and celebrate their special heritage
"Shale Families", a new three-year project part funded by Museums Galleries Scotland, was begun in May 2010. Initial objectives are to digitise a substantial range of oil company records to provide a powerful resource for research into family histories. This will form one element of a comprehensive new website offering a range of digital research resources including a much extended gazetteer of shale oil-related sites.
