Can anyone help with this?

I have a Soldiers Demobilization Account which has the following information:

Regimental No:  9349
Rank:  Pte   Cockburn A
Lanark Yeomanry

Date 28 Jan 1919

A Cockburn was my great-grandfather Alexander and I would like to know how to find out more about his service during WW1.   I have tried looking on medal rolls on Ancestry, but no luck.  I would be grateful for any help/advice.

He may have never served in a "war zone" do you have any medals??
Having looked at the Lanarkshire Yeomanry great War History 1/1st Went to Gallipoli,the 2/1st and 3/1st didnt go to war they did go to Ireland which was classed as home service

He may also have joined another regiment and gone overseas with them??

Have you any other info?

Unfortunately I don't have any medals, this demobilization account is the only evidence I have for him been in the army at all.  Were the Lanark Yeomanry a territorial force?  If so, is it possible he continued with his "normal" life as a gardener until such a time came that he was needed for service?

Yes the Lanarkshire Yeomanry were TF but when they moblized in 1914 they would be either training or guarding key installations.
 Its not like present day TA when you had a job and did part time soldiering after mobilisation that was you til Nov 1918 However he could have joined up in 1914 but not actually called to serve til a bit later.He has an early pre 1917 Service number though.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. 

The info you have given and the link have made things a lot clearer for me.  I may not have a conclusive answer, but at least I have an idea what he may have been doing.  I think i need to do a bit more searching and also ask my aunts and uncles if they know any more.  There may be other useful bits and pieces in the family that I don't know about. 

If I find out any more I'll let you know.
