WILLIAM (Henry) MORGAN
« on: Tuesday 20 May 08 14:57 BST (UK) »
Hi  :) I have a couple of queries, was hoping someone could help me out please.

I have a WILLIAM HENRY MORGAN (Snr) dob 1801 born Mynyddyslwyn, he has a son WILLIAM MORGAN (Jnr) dob 1816 Mynyddyslwyn.  My first query is: This would have made William (Snr) aged 16 when his son William (Jnr) was born - is this probable?

In the 1841 census William (Snr) was married to an Elizabeth (Heyley) dob 1818 (approx same age as William (Jnr)) and they had a daughter Sarah (Source info Folio 19 page 4 ) no mention of William (Jnr) on this record.  I may have found him in the 1841 census Folio 28, page 15 where he is working as a Haulier and living on his own .

In 1851 census it states that William Henry (Jnr) is NOW married to Elizabeth with various children and one of which is SARAH and it states that she is now the daughter of William (Jnr).

Next query: What I am trying to find out is: was Elizabeth really married 1st to William (Snr) and then married his son William (Jnr) or was William (Snr) really always only Elizabeths father-in-law?  If this was the case who was William (Snr) married to and who was his wife (William (Jnr) mother

I have tried looking through parish registers for this info but haven't been ale to find any records and have now come up against a brick wall, I'm hoping that someone out there may be able to help me sort this out.  Many thanks.

Hi Yorkie

Here is the family you found with Sarah in 1841

William MORGAN 39 blocklayer Y
Elizabeth 23 Y
Sarah 15 months Y
+ 2 servants

If you look at the 1851 image again, it says that Wm Hy senior is a widower and head of household, aged 85 (I think) and a farmer.

Below him we see Wm Hy junior (aged 50, a blocklayer) and his wife and family.

From this, I would conclude that the key family has Wm junior as the husband all along (although of course family relationships aren't given in the 1841 census).

I think you should be looking in 1841 for a 70 year old William, born in county and a farmer or similar.

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

It has been a long day - if I have that the wrong way around, somebody enlighten me, lol!

:-\ Hi Arran, many thanks for replying to my message.

Have tried finding William Snr in 1841, also looked in IGI etc.  but can't seem to find him, think I will have to go with what I've got and take it that William Snr was born sometime around 1766.

Many thanks for your help.
