Nick don't get me started on One World Tree, I had an ancestor born in 1750 who gave birth to a son in 1689 :o :o :o

Surely a miracle!

Just an update - I complained to Ancestry - apparently their programmers are aware of the problem, and are working on a solution.

Great news Nick, let's hope they come up with a solution!

Yeah . . . that's what the LDS told me when I pointed out that a couple of my ancestors appeared twice, christened the same day in two different parishes . . . now they appear four times . . .  ???

To be fair, both organisations have enormous databases to maintain, and many of the original handwritten documents are almost unreadable. At least you can look at the scans on Ancestry . . . if you can find them, of course. It's much easier to transcribe names if you know what they should be  ;D

Ancestry is both a blessing and a curse.  As a rank amateur at genealogy, I would hate to think what I would do without the site, because it does so much automatically.  However, I do wish that it was a bit more "configurable" - recently I started a couple of new family trees which concentrate solely on certain branches of my main tree, and now it keeps offering hints from my own trees, and I can't configure it to stop !  ::)  Also, a better editing tool would be really nice, so I can lop a whole branch off if I make a mistake, instead of erasing people one at a time.  It's so easy to create "orphans" if you erase someone before erasing their children, and orphans never show up on trees.

But (as others have said), "Oh well"  :)  We can't have everything, I suppose.
