The "Terrys" and "turning up land"?
« on: Sunday 25 May 08 02:37 BST (UK) »
I found mention of my 3g grandfather Jeffery KEATING in a Dublin newspaper in 1831, in an article on the Terrys turning up land in Limerick:

"On Tuesday about 600 fellows went to the land of Jeffrey Keating, near Fedamore, County Limerick, and dug up several acres of land."

Does  anyone know anything out about the "Terrys"? Were they  peasants who claimed land by digging it up? The article mentions groups of up to 3000 men digging up acres of land, also agrarian warfare!
