This looks like Francis' family in 1851:

HO107.  P.1938  Fol. 148  P. 9

Stoney Mill, Stowey, Somt.

VEAL
Francis  Head  M  49  Ag Lab  B.  Somt. Knighton Sutton
Hester  Wife  M  44                B. Somt. Chew Magna
Francis  Son  12                     B.  Somt.  Sutton
Christiana  Dau  11                B. Somt.    ?  ?
Martha  Dau  9                       B. Somt.  Stowey
John  Son  7                                    ~           ~
Mary  Dau  5                                   ~         ~
George  Son  11 mths.                   ~           ~

I looked for a marriage for Francis Veal between 1851 and 1861 with a Harriet on the page and found:

Francis Veal  married  Q1. 1857  Merthyr Tydfil  Vol. 11a  Pg. 371
Harriet Farrow on the page

I'll now go see if I can find a matching Harriet  Farrow b. 1834 in Somerset.

Roy -

With help from Gadget - it seems possible - only possible, mind - that Elizabeth in 1871 was this family:

1871 :RG10.  P. 5329  Fol. 21  Pg. 2

9 Clarence Row, Bedwelty

JONES
Edward  Head  M  56  Miner
Mary  Wife  M  47
John  Son  Un  27   Miner
David  Son  Un  24  Collier
Mary  Dau  Un  22  Drawing trams Pidworth Mine
Edward  Son  Un  20  Collier
Elizabeth  Dau  14   Picking slags Mardy Coal Pit
Richard  Son  11  Collier

Those in blue were born Monmouth, Rhymney, the others all born Cardiganshire, Aberystwyth

This is the closest we could get - and is based only on them living in Bedwelty, were the marriage took place.  Best you get Elizabeth and Alfred's marriage certificate and check her father's details  ;D

Hi Lyndonv
First I have to say I am not related to the Veale family. I became interested in Albert Veale whilst researching the WW1 soldiers of the village of Brithdir and I use the census as a means of background information.  This is what I wrote about Albert.

Albert Veale, Private 1700, Welch Regiment, 2nd Battalion was killed in action on 14 July 1915.  He was the son of coalminer Alfred Veale and wife Elizabeth of 10 James Street, Brithdir.   Francis Veal, agricultural labourer of Stone, Somerset was responsible for the Veale [Veal] family migrating to Wales.  He came to the Rhondda Valley where he found work as a collier and where is first born son Alfred was born.  Alfred married Elizabeth Jones of Rhymney in 1878 and typical of that era the birthplace of ones children reflects the movement in search of work.  Beaufort, New Tredegar, Hopkinston, and Pontypridd are the towns and villages where Albert Veale and his siblings were born.

Regards, Roy

Old thread but just came across it

Harriet was my 4th time great aunt and a few of her family also end up down in the Valleys her nephew John is down in Mountain Ash and in 1901 they have a boarder James Vowle - which now I'm wondering if they are actually a Veale

Hi can anyone get any information concerning the family of Albert vales family. As I think my grandfather john veale from barged were related. Can't really remember him as he died when I was very young. His wife name was Mary, and they had 2 sons. Les and my father Roy. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Lyndon.
