« on: Sunday 25 May 08 17:01 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help I am looking for a marriage between William Alderman and Ann Rose between 1861 and 1867. Could be Stonesby or close  by.
In 1861 census both working in Sysonby House by Melton Mowbray he was a groom and she was a cook. and not married at the time .
Many thanks
Alan

Hi Alan,

Are you sure William married Ann Rose?  In 1861 census it states she was born Stonesby, Leicestershire, but his wife Ann in 1871 census was born Mickfield (probably Micklefield?) York

There's a marriage for William Alderman Mar 1868  Peterboro 3b   320     with an Anne Whiting on same page, but looks unlikely, maybe a trawl through the full GRO index is needed

I have trawled through the complete bmd's and I can't see a likely candidate in Leicestershire and didn't notice any in Yorkshire, either.

There are a couple in Lincolnshire after 1867 and one in Potterspury in Northamptonshire 1864. Plus the Peterborough one and one in Bristol but I didn't make a note of them as they weren't in Leics

Census information very confusing.  In 1891 her birthplace is Stonesby, Leics and William's is Micklefield Green, Hertfordshire!!  So looks as if the Yorkshire in 1861 is a red herring, (seen a few of those before).  Thought the birthplace may have given an indication of place of marriage  :-\

Alan, have you any of the children's birth certs showing mother's maiden name?

Maybe they didn't marry til later, it has been known  :D

Thanks for your replies.I have also searched through to no avail , but i have a problem with Stonesby records,I believe they are still with the church as Leicester archives do no have them yet.

The only contact I know of is a Rev Starke for Stonesby but i am not getting a reply to my emails perhaps she has left that parish.
The Micklesfield i think is in Hertfordshire per 1881and 1891 census although 1871 looks like Yorkshire

Maiden name on the one i have is Ann Rose all bar one born in Melton Mowbray the other child born Stonesby
