McMurray marriage 1848
« on: Wednesday 28 May 08 14:41 BST (UK) »
Looking for more information on the McMurray family, have a thread to follow as follows:

Mary McMurray married Feb 1848 in Fermanagh to George Sweeney; possible son Edward born 1848-1849 in Ireland, balance of children born in Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland

Any info on sibs, parents, dates, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

If the family were Protestant then there should be a marriage certificate (civil registration of non-catholic marriages started 1845) but if they were Catholic then you will have to search for a church record (if the records exist) but to do so you need to know where they lived in Ireland (parish of not actual townland). IGI lists several children including Edward but his record is a submitted entry so may not be correct.
If the family moved to Scotland there will likely be more information on Scottish certificates than you will be able to get in Irish records.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
