Can someone read the Brides mothers name please?
« on: Friday 30 May 08 06:27 BST (UK) »
Hi guys
Am posting an extract from a marriage certificate here because the bride came from Armagh so hoping someone can read the name of the mother of the bride.  If I'm really lucky, someone may recoginse the lady as well!!

The bride was married in Queensland, Australia - her name Hannah Jane Kelly, groom William PORTER.

Father of the bride was William KELLY.  It's the mothers name that is causing me problems.  The first name is Martha but what is her maiden name?   :-\

Hannah was married in the Church of England church so protestent as was all the family who came out to Australia.

Many thanks for your help and I apologise for the poor quality of the scan.

Regards
Jan

That was my guess too (before I read your reply).  :)

Ummm.... second thoughts - the supposed T doesn't look much like the one in Teacher.  It looks more like one of his/her F's, so it could be Foller.

It looks like Joller. Don't think it's a 'F' as it nothing like the 'F' in farm.

It's hard to make out the first letter, because it's so faded, but I will concede that a J is the more likely candidate  :)

I'm thinking STOLLER - the very faded S styled like that in SLATER above, and the t so faded as to be virtually invisible!

I can see that now that you've pointed it out Anna...could be right. Of course marriage info for William Kelly would solve the problem.

Hi Joy
I was posting a 'thank you' reply as you were putting up your post.  Yes the IGI shows Dollar but as I said in my reply, the word does not end in 'ar' but 'er' and the first letter does not look like a 'd'.  Would make it easier for all of us if they printed rather than write in 'running writing'!!!
Thanks heaps
