I'm new here so not sure if it's OK to post so long after the original postings!

Gresham Street is no longer there. If you search for Dorset Street in Leicester (or look at the following link)

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Catherine+St,+Leicester+LE4,+United+Kingdom&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=12.4489,28.256836&ie=UTF8&cd=3&geocode=FWpdIwMdzwPv_w&split=0&ll=52.645225,-1.118975&spn=0.012473,0.027595&z=15

Dorset St used to run between Belgrave Rd and Catherine St, as Brandon St still does. Working south (towards the city centre) the streets were:-

Brandon St
Dorset St
Argyle St
Gresham St
Cranbourne St

dissecting them all (running parallel with Belgrave Gate) was Allington St.

Cheers

Rob

and then there was the (LNER I think) railway station and sidings...

Hi Rob,

Thank you very much for your post. I appreciate anyone taking the time to answer my questions or queries.

I live 75 miles away from Leicester and although I visited there regularly when I was very young I don`t recall any locations or addresses, thus the reasoning behind a lot of my questions.

Steve
Banbury and Hall families from Leicester 1850 to 1950.

Parfery or Parfrey family from Norfolk or Cambs 1800 to 1900.

I am in the process of uploading a 1933 street plan of Leicester. If you want to take a look at it, there is only one section at the moment, NW. It should be completed within the next couple of days. View at http://www.artus-familyhistory.com/source/Early%20Maps.html/source/Early%20Maps.html Click on 'Leicester 1933'.
Regards.

This is excellent - and so are the other maps - I only wish I had to do research in Manchester! I had a look at some of the rest of your site and I really like it - great un-bloated layout and lots of interesting things! I'm looking forward to the NE corner of the Leicester map!

Well done and thanks Eric

Eric - it works very well - appreciate the effort in getting the scan level and lined up! - 1933 is a good date as much of the Victorian street layout is still intact.

Thanks very much - I think this should be added to the Leicestershire Resources section of the site.

Best regards

Rob
